Strata Goes Live at 2 TAFEs

Over the last 3 weeks, two of the largest Technical and Further Education (TAFE)
providers in Victoria have put Avaxa’s Strata Student Management System into production.
The deployments have been an unqualified success, including full conversion of historical
data and in-progress transactions, and training for over 200 staff. Avaxa’s Service
Manager reported low call rates and no significant Strata problems. Avaxa is extremely
pleased with this result, as it represents the culmination of over 2 years of Strata
development.
Both TAFEs reported extremely positive experiences, and were fulsome in their praise
of Avaxa and its people. “We are delighted, and have never seen staff react so positively
to a new application; Strata is the shiznitz”, the IT Manager of one TAFE reported
to Avaxa; at the other TAFE, the reaction was similar: “All the painstaking efforts
by many people at both Chisholm and NMIT, as well as our development partner, Avaxa,
was finally put to the test this morning, and the pudding was sweet!”. Users at
satellite campuses have been delighted by the responsiveness and speed of Strata,
which was a concern with the previous student administration system.
Avaxa regards these deployments as the completion of the first phase of Avaxa’s
product plans for Strata, and Avaxa will be extending the breadth, depth and reach
of Strata in the immediate future. Strata will closely track the Victorian Governments
Skills Reform program and Strata v2, to be released in June, 2009, will address
the first phase of the Skills Reform program.
Strata is available to education providers in all tertiary sectors, and includes

MPV implements Valmax for managing their property valuation practice.
Avaxa’s role was to implement Valmax onto MPV’s servers and assist staff
to use the product. Because time and budget were significant constraints Avaxa was
able to utilise existing MPV resources as part of the implementation process.

Avaxa awarded development contract for new student management system for NMIT
and Chisholm Institute
Avaxa has been chosen as the preferred partner to redevelop the existing
student management system for both Chisholm and NMIT Institutes of Tafe. Both Chisholm
and NMIT have used Shape as their application for all student management requirements
very successfully for the past decade. Future options for ongoing development and
support of Shape and its aging technology limit options for these businesses to
meet future business needs.

Chisholm Institute goes live with new International Student Programs application
A new forms style application was required to manage International Student
Programs (ISP) at Chisholm and NMIT Institutes. This application replaces Microsoft
Access based applications that were no longer scaling to meet increased use and
new demands for access from remote international locations.

Avaxa assists Box Hill Institute to upgrade student management system
A new ministerial directive defining the way student fees are calculated
for profile students, required changes to Box Hill’s SMART student management application.
Avaxa’s role was to define an approach, a scope of work to establish a development
project and then pull together a project team to implement the required changes.
The project team comprised a diverse group of skills from within Box Hill, from
Avaxa and from external contractors to deliver the changes required.

Victoria University of Technology seeks Avaxa assistance to roll out a new network
A graphical tool was required that would allow technical staff to execute
a series of scripts for migrating some 2000 existing users from Novell to Microsoft
Active Directory. This tool needed to be sufficiently configurable to allow a varied
set of scripts to be executed and provide feedback to the user as to the progress
of the migration process and successful execution of each script.
